Three Card Monte bills its new comedy revue as an "evening of sketch sadism." But apart from the show's slightly dark sense of humor there's nothing malicious in this fairly standard collection of gags about family therapy, the battle of the sexes, a wacky dentist, and the like. The performers are able, the pace is brisk, and the jokes are abundant. The problem is that they aren't very funny: the material feels stale and derivative, while the attempts at twisted whimsy often land with a mirthless thud. Ultimately it's a case of polished performers bested by mediocre material. --Zac Thompson
