Moonraker

James Bond's 11th outing (1979) is more impressive than entertaining. There are big sets, big scenery, and big special effects, and, standing down in front, some very tiny people telling some very tiny jokes. Roger Moore, as Bond, has been rendered completely superfluous, which is an advantage. Lewis Gilbert directed, but the real auteur of the series is production designer Ken Adam, whose spectacular chrome and plastic sets define Bond's world and technological ethic. With Lois Chiles, Michel Lonsdale, Richard Kiel, and Corinne Clery. 126 min.
