Motion Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through March 3 2012

The NFL's only female general manager, Diane must revive the winless Cleveland Rams to keep her job. She's got first draft pick, but the hottest prospect, ardently courted by her prickly, underhanded boss, is a felonious meathead quarterback with a conscience-free agent who happens to be Diane's detested ex-husband. Playwright Ronan Marra sets up such intricate, high-stakes relations among his main characters and lets things unravel so giddily that you needn't know anything about football to appreciate his dramatic ingenuity. Despite some flabby plotting in act two, Marra craftily explores how greed, ego, and stupidity conquer ethics. Aaron Snook's premiere staging is smart and convincing, though setting the action on a miniature football field is cheap and distracting. —Justin Hayford
