Evanston restaurant specializing in Himalayan cuisine.
This pleasant storefront serves an abundance of meat and vegetarian dishes unique to the Himalayas, and the menu fully explains each choice, so diners arent lost among the Indian staples -- a wide range of meats and seafood in innumerable tandoori, vindaloo, tikka, and masala preparations -- or the more exotic Nepalese offerings. In an entree called chhoela, boneless chunks of chicken, duck, or goat are marinated and grilled in a mouthwatering blend of chiles, garlic, cumin, turmeric, ginger, and cilantro. Bhutuwa is a dish with similar flavors, but the meat is sauteed. Nepalese entrees such as khasi ko maasu (goat meat cooked on the bone, village style) are hotter than their Indian counterparts but also have more complex flavors. Some two dozen vegetarian dishes are offered -- mostly potatoes, lentils, and cauliflower prepared in a variety of aromatic sauces. Rice dishes and breads are also top quality.
