This brilliant work of dance theater premiered here four years ago, before its triumphant Broadway engagement. Set to songs by Billy Joel (performed with punch and precision by vocalist Darren Holden and an onstage band), Twyla Tharp's staging chronicles the lives of three friends who journey from "romantic teenage nights" in the mid-60s through the horrors of Vietnam, then disillusioned decadence and emotional rebirth at home. Tharp's intricate, dynamic choreography is lyrical and violent, erotic and athletic. The virtuosic touring cast includes original stars Keith Roberts and Elizabeth Parkinson as alienated lovers; their sizzling "Big Shot" pas de deux is a highlight. Thu 7/6, 7:30 PM, Fri 7/7, 8 PM, Sat 7/8, 2 and 8 PM, and Sun 7/9, 2 and 7:30 PM, Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress, 312-902-1400, $18-$80.
