Whether or not it has anything to do with the Klaxons’ nu-rave piss-take, a whole new generation is taking up the plastic beaded bracelets and Cookie Monster backpacks of the candy flippers of yore and starting an honest-to-God rave revival. Of course, the new club kids—and the DJs and producers who serve them—have broader tastes than old-timers who would specialize in, say, one of several independent subgenres of jungle, but Felix Cartal’s stuff sounds straight up like something you might have heard in a warehouse ten years ago. His best work might be the delirious single “Drugs,” with its acid-drenched synth howls, but his dizzying, pitch-bending remix of MSTRKRFT’s “Bounce” is right up there. —Miles Raymer
