Lounge/restaurant from the Tango Sur team.
Music after 9 PM.
It's easy to miss the sign with its tiny single letter hanging from an otherwise nondescript building on an industrial stretch of North Elston. But it's worth looking for. More lounge than restaurant, ñ (pronounced EN-yay), from the team that brought us Tango Sur, serves delicious Argentine food like greaseless, generously stuffed empanadas (beef, chicken, ham and cheese, or spinach) and vacio, a well-seasoned five-by-two-inch steak that's tough but full of beefy flavor. Sandwiches, big enough for two, include tender chicken breast, breaded beef, and a thin fillet of beef topped with a fried egg and cheese. The only misstep is the fries: thin like the ones at McDonald's, but oversalted. All the specialty drinks are stellar -- bartenders fresh-squeeze the lime and lemon juice for the enormous mojitos and caipirinhas -- but my favorite is La Passion, an enticing mix of passion fruit, sugarcane liquor, fresh lime juice, and sugar. Live music is played on Tuesday starting around 10, and there are DJs Wednesday through Saturday; the crowd is everything I'm not: young and intimidatingly beautiful.
