Naked and Raw The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Wednesdays. Continues through Nov. 21 2012

Stand-up comics may try to look casual and off-the-cuff, but the best of them appreciate the value of construction and editing. The unbilled, underrehearsed comedian who opens for Tyla Abercrombie doesn't seem to know that. And the results are all the more excruciating because Abercrombie so clearly outshines him, coming across as a seasoned, electric stage presence in her one-woman show, with a relatable charisma and a knack for making jokes land. Abercrombie's MPAACT Solo Jams performance features bits on the politics of gender, sex with older men, and the ecosystem of the unemployment office. With a little more polish and tightened transitions, Abercrombie's material will be worthy of the artist delivering it. —Dan Jakes
