The acronym that LA-based producer Squeak E. Clean and Brazil’s DJ Zegon have attached to their collaboration stands for “North America/South America,” a nod to their geographical distribution and to the international flavor of their music, which covers everything from trip-hop to baile funk. Their new Spirit of Apollo (Anti-) is brimming with “more than 40 guest performances,” according to a cover sticker—among them spots from M.I.A., David Byrne, Tom Waits, and Karen O—and the dizzying variety of talent on display proves these guys have address books as impressive as their record collections. So I can’t quite explain how—given that they seem to have envisioned a sort of utopian transglobal club music, then lined up the top-flight connections to make it happen—they ended up with an album of mostly unspectacular dance pop that deserves to get shelved next to N.E.R.D. The Abstract Giants, Kidd Russell, DJ Zebo, and the Starter DJs open. —Miles Raymer
