Natasha Leggero Brief Run (Theater) Critic's Choice Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Thu., Aug. 26 and Fri., Aug. 27 2010

This Rockford native has two favorite subjects. The getup--long gloves, scarves, trenchcoats--she wears at just about every show suggests her fondness for mocking the privileged. "Did you hear we're running out of diamonds?" she asked, kicking off a set at the Montreal Just for Laughs festival in July. "How do you even make a diamond? The only way I know to make a diamond is to jerk off an old man." Then there's her unabashed embrace of trashy reality TV, which yields jokes about the flimsiness of the competitions and the TLC series I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant. Leggero ends every bit with an infectious grin and apparently won't tolerate anything less from her audience. At the Just for Laughs show, she noticed one guy who wasn't laughing and made it her mission to break him, asking him questions and tailoring material to his tastes. It didn't take long for him to giggle. --Steve Heisler
