Nothing's quite so painful as failed comedy, and this atrocity is equivalent to a compound fracture. Two dumb losers (Will Friedle and Chris Owen) marry two elderly sisters (Renee Taylor and Louise Lasser) for their money, but the sisters have lost the family fortune and are planning to murder their new husbands for the insurance. All four then set about trying to kill one another. The basic comic premises are borrowed from some very funny movies, including Kind Hearts and Coronets and The Ladykillers. But writer-director Gary Preisler descends to the lowest form of comedy—crotch kicks, fart jokes, the supposed hideousness of older bodies—and crushes or ignores the potentially funny stuff. PG-13, 90 min.
