Nels Cline-Nate McBride-Jeff Parker-Frank Rosaly Quartet

Guitarist Nels Cline is nearly as fascinating in print as he is onstage: his curriculum vitae seems to expand by the minute, with tendrils stretching out from his free-improv roots to his stints with Mike Watt and Lydia Lunch to his continuing work with Wilco and Carla Bozulich. His fearless versatility even landed him an unlikely spot on the cover of Guitar Player in March. Tough, adaptable, and perfectionist, his playing adds fire and texture to anything he touches. For this show he'll be joined by Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker, a true stealth bomber deserving of attention in his own right, and bassist Nate McBride, a mainstay of Ken Vandermark's many projects who has also turned up with players as diverse as flutist Nicole Mitchell (Black Earth Ensemble) and saxophonist Bruce Lamont (Yakuza). The quartet will be rounded out by hardworking local drummer Frank Rosaly, who also plays with the Rempis Percussion Quartet on Monday at Silvie's (the Dave Rempis-Tim Daisy Duo opens; see separate Treatment item). Lay All Over It, the duo of bassist Jason Ajemian and drummer Nori Tanaka, opens this show. Sun 12/11, 9:30 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, 773-276-3600 or 866-468-3401, $7.
