When: Tue., Oct. 6, 8-1 a.m. 2009
The New Music Seminar, a day of music business guidance and networking, kicks off with a keynote speech by Yahoo! Music head Michael Spiegelman, followed by four panel discussions: “Welcome to the New Music Business: Everything You Know Is Wrong” featuring Tommy Boy (and New Music Seminar) founder Tom Silverman; “Get Arrested! Marketing and Promotion in the New Music Business” with Digital Music News founder and editor Paul Resnikoff and Ariel Hyatt of Ariel Publicity; “The Creative Process and Radical Differentiation” with Pitchfork news editor Amy Phillips and house music DJ Bad Boy Bill; and the final panel “Your Live Show and Tour: Simple Steps to Cut Through the Glut and Reach the Magic 300 Ticket Mark” features author and musician Martin Atkins, booking agent Tom Windish, and Metro talent buyer Joe Carsello. Between panels, visit other attendees, panelists, and exhibitors at the Schmoozatorium. (Yes, it’s actually called that.) A cocktail reception follows the panels, and an “afterparty” follows that.
