New Romantics Art Exhibition

When: Sat., April 24, 5 p.m. 2010

Contemporary photographers Matt Austin, Jessica Bruah, Bill Guy, Nate Matthews, Jason Reblando and Mike Reinders examine the 19th century concept of Romanticism while still being enrooted in modern American culture. Romantic artists such as the painters Caspar David Friedrich and Albert Bierstadt depicted landscapes that were captivating because of their ability to portray nature, strength of color, and calculated composition that left the viewer entranced, unable to look away. This exhibition explores the 21st American landscape, spaces that range from urban city dwellings to rural destinations on the fringes of civilization, where the ideas of Romanticism might still exist.
