To the editors:

In Section Three of the Reader of Nov. 3, 1989, was a column headed "News of the Weird" by Chuck Shepherd. Mr. Shepherd reported that a school in Odessa, Missouri, dissected kittens, removed their intestines, tied them together & jumped them as if they were jumping rope.

There is nothing funny in this practice. It is appalling that kittens are killed for biology classes, & making fun of their insides is equally insensitive.

I'm very disappointed you chose to print this appalling practice under an article that would invite mockery. Cruelty & bad taste, be it to humans or animals, is never funny.
