Nico and Dani

Two teenage boys share an agenda for the summer—to have sex with girls. In the meantime, mutual masturbation will have to suffice—at least this is how Nico sees the situation; he doesn't know that Dani's in love with him. Conveniently, Dani's mother and publisher father are away from the family's home near Barcelona, but there are adults on the periphery—a soulful writer, a suspicious tutor, a wistful housekeeper—who give advice and heighten the drama as the boys are courted by two girls. Set in gorgeous, sun-drenched exteriors, a rambling beach house, and a camper—the cramped interior boldly intensifies everything that takes place there—this drama integrates stylish imagery, realist sex, and casual comedy, and its central relationship is far more complicated and real than the gay-straight and homosexual-latent homosexual dichotomies typical of fiction. Written by Tomas Aragay and director Cesc Gay, based on a play by Jordi Sanchez; with Fernando Ramallo and Jordi Vilches. 90 min.
