Ben Stiller, Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais—all of them were considered edgy when they first arrived on the scene, but for some performers an edge is just something you use to pry open the piggy bank. This third and last installment in the money-minting children's franchise, about museum figurines who magically come to life, offers one brilliant special-effects sequence, in which characters chase each other around the interlocking staircases of an M.C. Escher drawing. Otherwise the tone is set by a scene in which a monkey the size of a building directs a giant piss stream onto a miniature cowboy and centurion (Wilson and Coogan). This was the last feature for both Mickey Rooney and Robin Williams; among those who survived the experience are Rebel Wilson, Ben Kingsley, Bill Cobbs, and Dick Van Dyke. Shawn Levy directed.
