One of my favorite shows of all time took place here, and not just because of the show. It was my junior year of high school, and I was going to see Depeche Mode--I'd been into them since I was eight. I went with a friend who drove, which was very exciting because there were no parents along. During the show I kept smiling at this really attractive drag queen who was staring at me, checking me out. I felt honored, though I want to make it clear I didn't want to get with her--I had just come out at the time. She came up to me and said, "I'm with the band. I'm with Martin." That would be Martin Gore from Depeche Mode--the one who wears the leather dresses. So anyway, she invited me to go out with them to a bar and to some after-hours places and then said, "And of course you have to come back to the hotel." She was very persuasive, but I was 16 and had to go to school the next day--I had to turn her down. "I would, but I have an English test on Shakespeare's sonnets," I said. She was like, "Shakespeare's Sister the group?" And I was like, "Uh, no, not exactly." So that's how I missed my chance to sleep with Depeche Mode--or at least try on a leather dress.
