Nights of the Blue Rider

comment

This multidisciplinary performing arts festival, closing this weekend after a three-month run, is hosted by the Pilsen area's Blue Rider Theatre, 1822 S. Halsted, 733-4668. $10 a night; some student and senior discounts available. Following is the schedule for December 15 through 17.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15

Douglas Ewart

and Lovers Fragments

Ewart performs original compositions and improvisations on traditional and invented instruments. The AlienNation Company's Lovers Fragments, staged by German choreographer/filmmaker Johannes Birringer, is offered in its Chicago premiere (not counting its presentation as a work in progress at Northwestern University some time back). Featuring original music by Brazilian jazz saxophonist Andre Marquetti, this multimedia "film concert" seeks to "explore the erotic and spiritual fantasies of five bisexual lovers trapped in an abandoned building and in their memories of an event in the past" by employing "fragmented gestural languages [that] breathe the urgency of being alive and of exposing life's dark and sensuous side, the longings and fears, and the melancholia of solitude." Others taking part in the production include visual artist Mariko Ventura, whose clay sculptures will become body-shaped surfaces on screen, and choreographer/dancer Imma Sarries-Zgonc. 8 PM.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16

Douglas Ewart

and Lovers Fragments

See listing for Friday. 8 PM.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17

Tatsu Aoki

and Lovers Fragments

See Friday's listing for a description of Lovers Fragments; Aoki performs solo improvisations on bass. 7 PM.
