No Witness The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through June 1 2014

Much of Ted May's ragged drama about the life of the notorious leader of the Chicago Outfit feels like a rough draft. Some of the scenes are too long, some too short. Many of them lack focus; in fact, at times it's hard to tell whether the play is about Giancana or his troubled daughter, Antoinette, who dubbed herself the "Mafia Princess." Still, Mary Pat Sieck's production contains plenty of strong acting—both Reilly Mosley and Liz Marsden are great as the young and adult Antoinette, respectively—and some strong moments of drama. A confrontation between Giancana and the African-American gambling boss Theodore Roe is particularly riveting, thanks to superb performances from Frank Menolascino, playing Giancana, and Gerald G. Price as Roe. —Jack Helbig
