Eclectic counter-service noodle shop.
One of several midwest branches of a chain from Boulder, Colorado, this noodle shop is situated to attract a crowd, just across from the Century multiplex and near many new residential developments. The surroundings are slick -- blue halogen and track lighting, apricot walls, and natural wood furnishings -- but the concept is fast-food. The menu consists of bowls of noodles: soups like Thai curry and chicken noodle, pasta (and green) salads, and noodle-based entrees to which you can add chicken, beef, tofu, or shrimp. Asian-inspired dishes -- all under $6 before add-ins, which top out at $2 -- include Japanese udon in a spicy-sweet soy sauce, Indonesian flat rice noodles with peanuts, and seared lo mein, all cooked to a nice al dente but sometimes too light on the sauce. Other global options include pesto cavatappi, Wisconsin mac 'n' cheese, and roma tomato marinara. Ordering is done at the front counter: you get a number and take a table, then servers track you down with your food. Dishes are marked for spiciness and vegetarian friendliness, and beverages include wine and beer along with a lineup of juices and healthy sodas.
