Notes on the Death of Kodachrome

A mix of documentary and personal diary, Jennifer Montgomery's 2006 video shows her visiting three friends to retrieve pieces of her Super-8 equipment. To the last of them, director Todd Haynes, she explains that she wants to use the dying format to re-create a dream she had after seeing experimental films for the first time. This thin plot serves as a frame for Montgomery's reflections on her and her friends' passage from youth to adulthood (she notes that Haynes's house seems “so grown-up”), the obsolescence of film, and the fragility of cinematic illusions. Also on the program: Montgomery's 1990 short Age 12: Love With a Little L. 80 min.
