Nothing But the Truth

Written and directed by Rod Lurie (The Contender) this ludicrous political thriller (2008) conflates the true stories of outed CIA agent Valerie Plame and disgraced New York Times reporter Judith Miller: Vera Farmiga stars as a sexy spy whose cover is blown by ambitious journalist Kate Beckinsale. The movie is a case study in how to trivialize the great events of the day in pursuit of "ripped from the headlines" verisimilitude; it screened in New York on its way to DVD but never even opened in Chicago.
