You have to wonder when the most coherent moment in a program is an excerpt from the sitcom Full House. In Michael Robinson's Light Is Waiting, the clip ends with a TV set crashing to the floor, giving rise to abstract effects that evoke the familiar idea of exploding conventional video. I was irritated by the low-rent version of the 2001 light show at the end of Victory Over the Sun. At the same time, these enigmatic, sometimes beautiful works leave a residue of mystery that can't quite be explained away, as in the gentle, hard-to-describe abstractions of Chiquitita and the Soft Escape (2003). Robinson will attend the screening. 75 min.
