Dutch documentarian Heddy Honigmann asks elderly residents of Rio de Janeiro to read erotic verse by Brazillian poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade (1902-1987), which revives their own warm memories of lovemaking in this 1996 film. Honigmann chats with the poet's former barber and former hatmaker, and a lusty montage of bikinied buts and tanned torsos ends with long shots of senior citizens strolling the beach. Facing the camera's slow zoom, the middle-aged filmmaker reads the last poem herself, closing a film that celebrates ageless carnal joy. In Portuguese with subtitles. 76 min.
