Oh Boy! Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through June 27 2010

Featuring a score by Jerome Kern and a book and lyrics by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse, this 1917 hit has its place in the evolution of the American musical. Still, it looks mighty creaky to contemporary eyes, with its formulaic, slow-moving romantic plot and musical numbers that often come out of nowhere. Most of the comedy falls flat, partly because of the 93-year-old slang and references and partly because the ensemble clearly feel much more at home with the music. Still, ably sung by Terry McCabe's young, sweet-voiced cast, the songs remain delightful after all these years. --Jack Helbig
