To the editors:

I think I speak for everyone at Arts Bridge in thanking the Reader and Chiori Santiago for a very fine article last week [Neighborhood News, February 12].

I would like to clarify my own statements regarding Business Volunteers for the Arts. The facts as related are correct--the Oriana Singers have been seeking a volunteer from BVA for four years, and got matched with one when we moved into Arts Bridge. However, while our involvement with Arts Bridge certainly seems to have been a catalyst, I did not mean to imply that BVA had in any way been withholding volunteers. On the contrary, Deborah Birnbaum, BVA's director, has always been extremely supportive of the Oriana Singers.

BVA has far more applicant organizations than volunteers to match them with. It is the volunteers who choose which organizations they want to work with. Arts Bridge gave us the edge we needed to stand out in this competitive field and attract the interest of one of these volunteers. We are very grateful to BVA for giving us the opportunity to take advantage of this expertise.
