One Third of a Nation

An oddball independent project from 1939, produced in New York by the Federal Theater Company, with Sylvia Sidney as a shop girl who fights for slum reform. Reportedly this was the last film to be shot in Paramount's Astoria Studios before they were turned over to the army; down in the cast is one Sidney Lumet, who reopened the Long Island facilities some 40 years later with his production of The Wiz. Dudley Murphey directed; with Leif Erickson and Myron McCormick.
