Orville and Wilbur Did It! Recommended Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through July 20 2014

This comedy from playwright David Zellnik and the New Colony features a controlling, sexually repressed stage manager named Jen (Jessica London-Shields) and a cast of actors on a children’s theater tour presenting the latest production from the fictional "Did It!" series, this one about the famous Wright brothers. We get bits from the hilariously treacly show itself, but the play mostly follows the backstage drama, with its showmances, egos, insecurities, breakdowns. The characters are bizarre and familiar at once, from oversexed Jasper (Kevin Stangler) to lovable, chubby Pandro (Joey Romaine) to New Agey Melitta (who declares "I want to marry someone really awesome but still fuck everything that moves!"). If you've ever been a theater person—or even just a youngish person thrilled and terrified by promise and possibility—this should ring true. Andrew Hobgood directs with style and energy; most fun are the seamless transitions from backstage to onstage, and the midshow insertion of a new cast member, X (Alex Grelle). —Suzanne Scanlon
