Out of Time

Denzel Washington reunites with director Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress) for this mystery thriller about a small-town sheriff who gets himself into hot water over a woman. I guessed the big plot twist as soon as Franklin began setting it up, which gave me a good 40 minutes to appreciate the fine supporting cast and weathered coastal Florida locations while waiting for Washington's character to catch up with me. The balance of the movie finds him sweating bullets and flashing his pearly whites as he races around trying to prove he's a good lawman, if not a particularly bright one. With Eva Mendes and Alex Carter. PG-13, 114 min.
