Out With the Old

Dear Sir:

As a veteran of WW 2 I am probably listed in the statistics as "Must Be Dead by Now." Nevertheless I was disturbed by your article on the problems of Chicago's Veterans' Hospitals ["Shame of the VA," June 23]. If they are old and out-of-date, tear them down and build new ones, like the other hospitals do. And how to get all that money? I happen to know that Stanford, California, has a brand-new and elegant Veterans' Hospital with state-of-the-art facilities and, as far as the surgical staff goes, I am told superb. So that means politics, and that means a full-scale onslaught on our senators (both of them) and our congressional representatives (all of them). Chicago needs what Stanford has.

Sincerely,

H.R. Catchpole

W. Oak
