Outside Providence

Enrolled by his father (Alec Baldwin) in an elite prep school, a boy who doesn't consider himself college material (Shawn Hatosy) meets a classy girl, falls in love, gets in trouble, and discovers personal ethics. The rest of this smug, uninsightful light drama set in the 70s takes place around the father's poker table as he and his cronies stage a cloying morality play about bigotry. Director Michael Corrente wrote the screenplay with Bobby and Peter Farrelly (the brothers behind There's Something About Mary), based on Peter's 1988 novel.
