Paper Crane Theatre offers gleeful mayhem in its 45-minute show, scheduled to appear at several pubs over the next month. The revue made its first stop at Wicker Park's Rodan, where the playing area was so small--eight by ten feet, tops--patrons got splashed during the water-ballet number, when Lauren Brenner mixed martinis in an inflatable pool, then went for a swim. For sheer inventiveness you couldn't beat Kate Mulligan's reverse striptease--a sensual dance in which she dresses--or Laura Grey's improvised serenades to audience members after gleaning a few details about them in brief interviews. There are also magic tricks, hand-jive juggling, hula hoop competitions, disco homages to Laugh-In, and even a straightforward song or two. This is madcap fun needing no alcohol boost. Thu 6/2, 10 PM. Nevin's Live, 1450 Sherman, Evanston. Then Fri 6/3, 10 PM. Joy-Blue, 3998 N. Southport. Then Mon 6/6, midnight. Funky Buddha Lounge, 728 W. Grand. Then Wed 6/8, 10 PM.
