When: Fri., Aug. 31, 9 p.m. 2012

Considering that Chicago hip-hop has become a hot commodity nationally, you'd expect a veteran local rapper dropping new music to get more than the customary blip of coverage. But Pugs Atomz, who's been cranking out tunes since 2000, self-released his mixtape Euro P: No More Pages in the Passport last month to pretty much the opposite of fanfare. Atomz put it together while traveling around the globe (as the title suggests, he ran out of room for stamps in his passport), and it's the kind of old-school mixtape that's more a collection of interesting ideas than a polished full-length. The best bits on Euro P are the tracks shot through with funky, sometimes woozy grooves, with Atomz delivering playful rhymes that flow like molasses. —Leor Galil Pacewon & Mr. Green headline; Matlock featuring Moodswangz, Pugs Atomz, Water, and 40 Oz.
