Things go bump in the night for 99 minutes in this microbudget horror movie by Israeli immigrant Oren Peli. Harassed in their house by an unseen demon, a day trader (Micah Sloat, using his own name in the movie) and his girlfriend (Katie Featherston, likewise) set up a camera in their bedroom to record them while they sleep, and the tapes reveal doors closing, strange shadows, etc. Peli appropriates the cinema verite gimmick from The Blair Witch Project (1999), generally to lesser effect; the two yuppies are so tedious that the normal activity is deadlier than the paranormal. But the climax is deliciously scary, and Peli gets considerable mileage from the simple matter of lights inexplicably going on in another room.
