Paul Thomas: Comedogenic

When: Thursdays. Continues through May 26 2011

Politically incorrect humor, musical instruments, and the surprise appearance of a dildo punctuate Paul Thomas's tepid one-man sketch show. In the opening bit, Thomas plays the mentally disabled man who'll be "Paul Thomas" for the evening, thanks to a new drug that causes "extreme narcissism, delusional aspirations--and sometimes you shit your pants." More cringe-worthy sketches about coming out of the closet, an angry recovering addict, and a frugal pedophile follow. There's a hint of promise in several physical sketches in which Thomas displays an impressive arsenal of facial tics and expressive postures. And he's funny as a technology-addled teen frenetically texting while playing a classical French horn solo. --Marissa Oberlander
