Peter Pan's Shadow Part Two: Everland | Dream Theatre | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader

Peter Pan's Shadow Part Two: Everland Recommended The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through June 10 2012

I always like to wander around the neighborhood before a show at Dream Theatre's East Pilsen storefront space. The cityscape is raw and unreformed there, full of century-old warehouses, loading docks adorned with razor wire, and alleys molting the asphalt that covers the original brick pavers. It's the perfect setting for the second installment in Jeremy Menekseoglu's trilogy based on the J.M. Barrie classic, Peter Pan. This latest episode takes place in dystopian Everland—a decaying city located in the belly of Barrie's ticking crocodile, where Captain Hook (delightfully played by Menekseoglu) and Peter Pan's shadow are trapped together. Reviewing the first play in the trilogy, Reader critic Tony Adler said it deserved a more sophisticated staging. That may be so—but then again, as with East Pilsen itself, rough edges are part of the charm. —Keith Griffith
