Friday, January 25, between 2 and 5 PM, 700 block of South Loomis. Theft. Unknown offender or offenders broke into garage and stole $12 worth of toilet paper.

Monday, January 28, 3:40 PM, 1400 block of West Van Buren. Assault. 18-year-old shot in back of head with pellet gun by unidentified teenage male. Victim disarmed attacker and turned weapon over to his high school ROTC instructor.

Saturday, February 2, 12:30 AM, 1800 block of South Halsted. Assault. Victim, who didn't seek medical assistance until that afternoon, reported he was confronted by unknown offenders in red Chevy Blazer who insulted his gang affiliation, held him at gunpoint, and forced him to swallow a plastic bag containing cocaine. X rays revealed no evidence of bag in victim's stomach, and doctors pronounced him in "excellent condition."

Tuesday, February 5, 3:15 PM, 400 S. State. Theft. Library staff member observed male offender hiding books in bag and attempting to exit. Offender was stopped by security guards, who recovered four foreign-language dictionaries--Latin-English, Greek-English, Hebrew, and Russian--none of which had been checked out.

Wednesday, February 6, 11 PM, 2100 block of West 19th. Assault. Unidentified female offender pulled up next to 30-year-old female pedestrian, exited black four-door vehicle, and struck victim in face, saying, "Hey, you're going to pay for somebody else's mistake!" Offender returned to vehicle and headed east.
