Pinkalicious The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Saturdays, Sundays and Mon., Jan. 3. Continues through Jan. 3 2011

Based on the first book in Elizabeth and Victoria Kann's series for children, this musical (dialogue by the Kanns, music and some lyrics by John Gregor) tells the rather preachy tale of a little girl whose overwhelming love of the color pink and voracious appetite for pink food gets her into trouble. But a light-hearted spin and the energy and charm of this Emerald City Theatre production easily overcome the script's leaden eat-your-veggies message. With its bright colors and loud, friendly actors, the show is aimed squarely at the Pre-K-to-grade-two market. Older children, like my 9-year-old daughter, may also be amused. The entertainment value for adults lies mainly in being charmed by how excited the kids get. --Jack Helbig
