Neighborhood northern Italian serving pastas, specials, and slabs of rustic thin-crust.
Formerly a tiny, homey neighborhood Italian restaurant, Pizza Rustica moved across the street a few years back to larger digs that remain tightly packed with tables (you won't have much elbow room). The pizza is thin-crust—not the dense, soggy kind you get at many Chicago places, but light, crispy, and golden brown, with a taste of the cornmeal the rectangular pans are sprinkled with. The range of toppings runs from a margerita to potato and rosemary to a tutti that includes not just sausage and pepperoni but black olives, mushrooms, olives, and blue cheese. Pastas come al dente and conservatively topped; these are supplemented by a specials board with basic secondi like steak and sea bass. Service can be trying—what good is the expanded list of cocktails, craft beers, and wines if your vino comes after half your meal is finished?
