Place de la Republique

Reportedly inspired by such cinema verite documentaries as Jean Rouch and Edgar Morin's Chronicle of a Summer (1961) and Chris Marker's Le Joli Mai (1963), Louis Malle took his camera and microphones into the streets of Paris, specifically to the title square. This 1974 release alternates between open interviews and candid glimpses of passing pedestrians. In French with subtitles. 94 min.
