When: Thu., Aug. 6, 7 p.m. 2009
Join us for the first Public Works speaker event featuring Jay Ryan of The Bird Machine and Chris Kaskie of Pitchfork. Thursday, August 6th 7-10pm FREE **************** Jay Ryan is a Chicago staple who has been screenprinting concert posters since 1995. Known for his muted colors, computer-free design technique, and depictions of animal mischief, Jay has worked for hundreds of bands, such as Andrew Bird, the Melvins, Shellac, the Decemberists, and his own group, Dianogah. Chris Kaskie is the man who turned Pitchfork from a 'zine into the ground zero of independent music, a bastion of hipsterdom responsible for making and breaking bands. At the helm as co-publisher and COO, Chris began the Pitchfork music festival, developed Pitchfork TV, and grew the site into a profitable business - quite a feat these days for a music mag.
