Puss in Boots . . . and Other Tails

Raven Theatre is advertising these three fairy tales as appropriate for children age two to ten. But what a two-year-old finds amusing rarely entertains a ten-year-old. My three-year-old loved Puss in Boots--in large part, she said, because she really, really liked Elizabeth Bagby's imitation of a cat. But she disliked the second story in this hour-long show so much she asked to go home. The kids in the theater who looked to be between eight and ten, however, seemed to enjoy the second two stories, one about neighbors who learn to get along, the other about a young man who finds a wife through magic. Perhaps there should be two bills, one pairing Puss in Boots with another simple, quick-moving tale for the under-five crowd, and the second made up of this show's two more sophisticated pieces for the postkindergarten set. Through 12/19: Sat-Sun 1 PM. Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark, 773-338-2177. $8.
