Quartet for the End of Time Member Picks

When: Thu., Aug. 12, 7 p.m. 2010

Against the celestial backdrop of the Adler Planetarium’s Sky Theater, the Fifth House Ensemble performs Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, which the composer debuted in 1941 at a German POW camp where he was imprisoned. Messiaen’s inscription at the head of the score alludes to the Book of Revelation, suggesting the piece’s tone: “In homage to the Angel of the Apocalypse,” he wrote, “who lifts his hand toward heaven, saying, ‘There shall be time no longer.’”

Price: $20, $15 Adler members
