Quartet | Chicago Reader

Another stuff-and-mount job by James Ivory (The Europeans), this time performed on Jean Rhys's 1928 novel of sexual aggression in Parisian society. Ivory's interest is focused so completely on the period clothes and decor that the drama never surfaces; he is a resourceful designer but no director. With Isabelle Adjani, Alan Bates, Maggie Smith, and Anthony Higgins (1981).
