Quest for Camelot

I don't like the popular formula for animated musicals: sappy songs, a tidy romance that starts out with one party thinking he or she isn't good enough for the other, good guys who tolerate obnoxious sidekicks, bad guys who abuse pathetic ones. This particularly stupefying example (1998) tells the story of a spunky girl, the daughter of a slain Round Table knight, who wants to follow in her father's footsteps. Kayley sets out to retrieve the magic sword Excalibur, which has been taken from King Arthur by a traitor with the voice of Gary Oldman and really disgusting fingernails. Frederik Du Chau directed a screenplay by Kirk DeMicco, William Schifrin, Jacqueline Feather, and David Seidler, based on Vera Chapman's novel The King's Damosel.
