Questing for Shangri-La Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Sundays. Continues through May 15 2013

Scoop Skupien kicks off his one-man comedy saga determined to escape corporate phoniness. He quits his job, sells his stuff, packs up his wife, and goes looking for paradise. There's no expecting him to find it, but what's surprising is the way he twists the non-Western world into Shangri-La-La Land. Foreign countries explode in confetti bursts of bad tropes: drones, anti-U.S. rhetoric, Big Brother, 'Bangkok teabag,' the Thai sex trade, bimbo wives, big boobs, Muslim modesty, women with feelings, genocide, nuclear plots, evil corporations, outback hicks, hapless Sherpas, crocodile wrestlers—he runs the gamut. The worst comes in his epilogue, when Skupien realizes you can achieve fulfillment right here at home by taking control of your career. —Jena Cutie
