Rabbit Hole The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Nov. 19 2011

David Lindsay-Abaire's 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner locates a couple in the quietest and arguably cruelest stage of grief, when it's too late for them to take comfort in condolences for the loss of their child but too soon to find peace in a "new normal." Surviving parents Howie and Becca cope with this eerie, somber limbo in conflicting ways, so every decision about how best to move forward turns into an emotional minefield--and Linday-Abaire's script turns into a fascinating study of subtext. The cast of June Eubanks's staging for AstonRep Theatre Company come across as genuine by the time they get to a rolling boil, but they haven't the subtlety required to show us how they got there. Their lack of nuance is magnified in an intimate performance space. --Dan Jakes
