Re-creation of the inaugural performance of the Compass Players Recommended Free Agenda The Short List (Theater)

When: Mon., Nov. 21 2011

Historian Paul Durica brings his Pocket Guide to Hell Tours and Reenactments to Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap to re-create the inaugural performance of the Compass Players, who are credited with inventing modern improv comedy at the University of Chicago in 1955; most of it will consist of a scenario play by Paul Sills, the original director of Second City. Durica, playing Fred the bartender, will periodically freeze the 11 other actors to explain the history of improv in Chicago and offer insight on urban renewal in Hyde Park. 1950s attire is encouraged. —Julia Thiel
