A mother and her two young daughters are walking ahead of me on a stretch of Halsted chock-full of sex shops and gay clubs. The younger of the two girls points excitedly at the scene in one window: a male mannequin clad in ladies' panties cavorts with two female mannequins in a bed. How will the mother explain this, I wonder.

"That one with the curly blond hair has a butterfly barrette just like my friend Rachel," says the girl. --Christine Young
